I think the answer depends on the grading service that slabbed the coin. Call me a slab snob, but I prefer PCGS and then NGC. I am leary of anything else.

By the way ... according to Numismedia a VF10 1932D would be approximately $184.00.

It's wise to be leery of other slabbing services (although I'd add ANACS to the list of reputable, trusted ones) because some services prey on
unsuspecting collectors and give whatever grade you want. They're like diploma mills for coins.

I can tell you this: they are valuable for sure. As I categorize coins for my web site, I noticed that the 1932D was worth a chunk of change, for sure.
In PCGS graded coins MS12 is $150; MS20 is $180; MS 30 is $210 or so. You can look at recent prices at shoeboxcoins.com under the "Coin Values" page. Amazing - there was even a sale for an "authentic" coin in PCGS, which went for $97. I am not sure what makes PCGS throw a coin into an "authentic" slab, but I figured that would mean the coin is not worth TOO much . . . MS55 is in the $550 neighborhood. |
