Which do you prefer - moderns or the classics?

Posts: 9 25-Jan-2008 10:11:33	Hi all, Let's see if we can't get this board moving forward again. Do you prefer to collect modern coins or classic coins? I collect both. I like the availability of the modern coins and, for the most part, they are affordable. I also love the American Silver Eagle. It is a beautiful design that was revived from a classic coin. I also love some of the classics too. I think now that our coins have gone to honoring presidents, we have lost the classic beauty of our coinage. I love the Peace Dollars and many of the classic commems because they are beautiful designs. I am interested to learn what others think on this topic. Chris

It lets me feel like I'm taking part in history, where the modern ones are great, but they don't have anything on the historical angle. It may just be because it's all we see each day, but I'm not all that excited with our current coins. I love the Standing Liberty Quarter, Morgan and Peace Dollar and as you can guess from my avatar, the Walking Liberty Half dollar. They're such beautiful coins in their own right, regardless of their rarity. I don't feel any of our current coins have the same level of artistry that those ones have. I do put together Whitman albums from change I get but other than that the only moderns I go for are to complete type sets. On the other hand, what are considered modern? I'm assuming you mean coin no longer in production. If that is true, then classics all the way!

Posts: 9 16-Apr-2008 20:24:12	Hello folks!!! I am a classic fan but I can be swayed by new coins also. If I seen a new coin and it catches my fancy, its coming home lol I would have to say two that I like are the Morgan's from Carson city and Mercury dimes. Anything pre 30's I will consider. One other thing I like to collect is Inaugural coins or commerative coins not worth as much but there neat and a great conversation piece. Also inaugural pins I like to collect they are just different and a great piece of history
