Statehood Quarters |
Lead | ||
|
I've noticed on all of the pictures of the statehood quarters that the S mint is featured on every one. Are these quarters in every day circulation?
I've collected them since they came out and always assumed P and D were the only mint marks. Forgive me if this question is silly, I only collect coins
that end up in my pocket. Any answers on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Actually the coins that have the S mint mark on them are proof coins and are not released into circulation. The only coins released for circulation are the P
and D minted coins. If you are collecting coins out of pocket change, it is very unlikely that you would find an S mint marked statehood quarter. The S minted
coins can be found in proof sets or from dealers who might sell them individually. Hope that helps.

Helps completely, thanks you. Just kind of confused me seeing the pictures with the S mint on every quarter. The older American coins had the S mint and I
thought maybe that was something we were going back into. Too little research on my part but I appreciate the prompt answer. Thanks again.

I just found a "s" mint quarter in circulation yesterday. I'm new to all this and so I thought it was a counterfeit (see counterfeit quarter???
post) but now I have to figure out what to do with it...

snoggs,
It's probably not a counterfeit. My guess is it somehow made it into circulation after being removed from a proof set. If it's been in circulation it's not going to command the prices you see for pristine proofs, but it would probably go for more than $0.25. |

clad vs silver class 101 | #5 | ||
|
One other thing about S proof quarters is there are two different s for every quarter made out of San Francisco. There is a clad which if you look at edge they
would look like p&d quarters with silver and copper color. The best proof is the solid silver, which the edge is completely silver. If you are starting to
collect the proof quarters try to go with the silver they are worth more value. Clad is just another term for junk. Hope this helps.

I still think the clad proof coins are beautiful ... I'm not sure I would agree that they are junk. My philosophy is collect what you love collecting. I do
like the silver proofs better, but that is just my opinion.

I did not mean they were junk I guess. What I was trying to say is clad is not worth much more than a P & D. I collect the clad sets but I try to focus on
gold and silver. There is a coin for everyone, just not for me lol. I am sorry if I offended you I just wanted to educate on clad vs silver.

No offense taken. We are all here to learn and we benefit from everyone's view.
